- “You cannot claim to be investing in every district while omitting Famagusta from your announcements,” he insisted, demanding specific answers and actionable proposals from the government.
In a statement released on Monday, Karousos highlighted that while President Nikos Christodoulides had promised projects for every district, Famagusta was notably left out. He emphasised that the Famagusta general hospital, which serves tens of thousands of residents and experiences increased demand during the summer due to tourism, requires urgent attention.
“The Famagusta district cannot continue to remain on the margins of state planning,” Karousos stated, calling for clarity on why Famagusta was excluded from recent investment announcements. He questioned whether the government believes the existing healthcare infrastructure is adequate for the district’s growing needs.
Karousos urged the government to disclose its plans for upgrading Famagusta general hospital, including potential projects, estimated costs, and implementation timelines. He stressed that the citizens of Famagusta deserve equal access to modern and high-quality healthcare services.

On Sunday, President Christodoulides announced over €60 million in funding for health infrastructure, which includes significant upgrades to various hospitals, but notably excludes Famagusta. The funding will be directed towards the second and third phases of the Athalassa psychiatric hospital, the establishment of a new infectious diseases unit at the Nicosia general hospital, and enhancements to the intensive care unit and pathology department at the Larnaca general hospital, among other projects.
