- Cyprus is set to experience unsettled weather as it transitions from sub-zero temperatures to a mix of dust, gale-force winds, and thunderstorms starting Wednesday.
The Department of Meteorology has issued warnings regarding strong winds, which are expected to reach up to six Beaufort. By Thursday, sparse dust will also enter the atmosphere, adding to the shifting conditions.
Gale-force winds: Cloudy Skies and Rising Temperatures
Wednesday will be predominantly cloudy, with mid and high-level cloud cover dominating the skies. Despite the gloomy outlook, temperatures will begin to rise, reaching around 12 degrees Celsius inland and 15 degrees along the coast. However, a local frost is still a possibility in higher mountain areas, where temperatures may struggle to exceed three degrees.
Rough Seas and Isolated Showers
As the day progresses, the northeast to easterly winds will strengthen, leading to significantly rougher conditions at sea. By Wednesday night, the cloud cover is forecast to bring isolated showers, particularly as sea conditions transition from “rough” to “locally wavy.” The winds will continue to blow from the northeast to southeast, maintaining speeds of four to five Beaufort, with gusts reaching six Beaufort in exposed areas.
The Shift from Cold to Warm
This weather change marks the end of the recent cold snap and signals the start of a warming trend expected to bring temperatures closer to seasonal averages by Friday. The outlook for the remainder of the week remains unstable, with local rains and potential thunderstorms anticipated on both Thursday and Friday.
Intensifying Weather Patterns Ahead
The volatile weather pattern is projected to intensify on Saturday, bringing intermittent heavy cloud cover and the possibility of isolated storms. Residents are advised to prepare for fluctuating conditions as Cyprus transitions from the cold winter chill to a more unsettled and warmer phase.
