pharmacy shooting — pharmacy shooting — A court has rejected a police request to detain three suspects connected to a shooting at a pharmacy in Limassol. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday at a pharmacy owned by a 61-year-old woman on Griva Digeni Street in Linopetra.
During the court proceedings, Detective Constable Ioannis Mavromoustakos presented witness testimony collected on the day of the shooting. This testimony indicated that a motorcycle with one passenger approached the pharmacy, and the driver discharged a firearm, firing twice.
The detective explained that the information was highly reliable, coming from an informant who provided details on 13 September. According to the testimony, the shooting was allegedly carried out by a 36-year-old suspect, acting on instructions from a 57-year-old individual.
Further police investigations revealed that the 36-year-old had received €2,500 through a 25-year-old intermediary as compensation for firing three shots at the pharmacy. Authorities are still searching for the weapon used in the shooting, which is reportedly in the possession of the 57-year-old suspect, alongside other explosive materials stored at an undisclosed location.
Police also managed to obtain closed-circuit television footage that corroborated the description of the 36-year-old suspect. Arrest warrants for all three suspects were issued on 13 September, and police recovered two bullet casings from the scene of the crime.
The 57-year-old suspect was arrested on Saturday morning. When questioned by police, he responded, “Do your job,” before invoking his right to silence. The 36-year-old denied any involvement, asserting he would address the matter in court, while the 25-year-old claimed ignorance of the situation.
Despite the evidence presented by the police, including witness testimony and CCTV footage, the court ultimately decided against the detention of the suspects, releasing all three following lengthy proceedings.
