The first 45 civil servants trained in public tenders have received their certifications and are set to utilise their skills across various government departments, according to the state treasury’s announcement on Monday.
Last week, a ceremony was held to honour these newly minted Professional Buyers, who have undergone an extensive training programme aimed at enhancing public procurement processes within the broader public sector.
Historically, many public tender competitions in Cyprus have faced difficulties due to a lack of experience and market insight among officials. This programme seeks to address those challenges by equipping civil servants with the necessary expertise to manage tenders effectively.
The training encompassed 160 hours and was conducted under the guidance of international experts in public procurement. The certified individuals belong to 11 different contracting authorities, which are public bodies responsible for managing a substantial volume of public contracts.
The treasury has emphasised that these government departments are committed to maximising the impact of their newly certified personnel. Furthermore, the treasury plans to expand this certification programme, aiming to include training for staff in local government and semi-governmental organisations.
In Cyprus, public tenders are overseen by the Public Procurement Directorate of the treasury. All tenders are published on the central eProcurement System at www.eprocurement.gov.cy, where interested vendors can register and submit their electronic bids.
