CARDET has been appointed as the National Coordinator for the EU Presidency Project (EUPP), marking a significant step in Cyprus’s role within European civil society and global development initiatives.
This appointment comes in anticipation of Cyprus’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026. The EU Presidency Project is a European Commission-funded initiative that aligns with the Presidency Trio of the Council, which includes Poland, Denmark, and Cyprus.
As part of a collaborative effort, CARDET will work alongside national NGO platforms Grupa Zagranica from Poland and Global Focus from Denmark, in partnership with CONCORD Europe. The project’s primary goal is to amplify the voice of civil society in shaping EU policies related to development cooperation, focusing on aspects like policy coherence, solidarity, and sustainability.
In its new capacity, CARDET will spearhead several initiatives aimed at enhancing civil society’s influence on development policies. Key tasks include:
- Facilitating dialogue among various stakeholders in Cyprus regarding EU development priorities.
- Leading national efforts to promote coherent and effective development policies.
- Supporting collaborative initiatives across the Presidency Trio to elevate civil society’s role at the EU level.
- Contributing to the creation of an inclusive and forward-looking agenda for the upcoming EU Presidency in 2026.
Through these efforts, CARDET aims to ensure that Cyprus plays a pivotal role in EU discussions and decision-making processes that affect development cooperation.
