Following the inspiring motto “art belongs everywhere,” the festival features over 30 productions from 12 international collectives, showcasing a rich tapestry of physical and walkabout theatre, new circus, media art, and site-specific performances. Running until November 15, the festival promises dozens of non-verbal and free performances, with only two indoor shows requiring tickets.
Street performances: Captivating Indoor Performances
The festival offers a unique opportunity for audiences to experience performances in a more traditional theatre setting. One of the highlights is Monad from France, which will present Yin at the Pattiihio Theatre this Friday. This performance combines the art of juggling with dance, creating a captivating spectacle where dervish-inspired rotations invite the audience into a mesmerizing journey through both space and time.
Art in Public Spaces
From its inception, ArtCargo spills into the public domain, turning streets, beaches, and squares into vibrant stages for free performances accessible to all. One notable event is Mission Roosevelt, performed by the Tony Clifton Circus from Italy, running from November 12 to 14. In this extraordinary participatory performance, audiences are placed in wheelchairs, offering a unique perspective as they navigate the city. This engaging experience promotes themes of access and empowerment.
On November 13, local artist Viky Kalla will present A Meeting-Celebration in the Old Port Square, featuring a choreography of 12 dancers that emphasises collective presence and connection. Meanwhile, Shadowdance from Belgium is set to enchant spectators daily until Sunday, transforming the Molos basins into a stunning dreamscape of light, shadow, and water projections.
Workshops and Community Engagement
Alongside the artistic performances, the festival also offers free, open-access workshops led by performers such as Murmuyo, Kamchatka, and Viky Kalla. These sessions focus on movement, improvisation, and theatre, aiming to engage citizens and foster creativity among participants. The festival further encourages dialogue about the future of Limassol’s public spaces through a series of public talks and workshops, organised in collaboration with local initiatives like Lemesos2030, the OPU Collective (Organisation for Positive Urbanism), and Critical Mass.

The discussions and workshops aim to gather citizens, urban thinkers, and artists to reflect on how they inhabit and shape their shared environments. This initiative is particularly relevant as urban spaces continue to evolve, and the festival serves as a platform for reimagining these spaces through artistic expression.
A Grand Finale Awaits
The ArtCargo Festival will reach its climax on November 15 with a spectacular finale at the historical KEAN Factory. The Italian vertical theatre pioneers eVenti Verticali will present CUBO, a breathtaking aerial performance on a 7-metre-high metal cube suspended in the air. Following the performance, attendees can look forward to the ArtCargo Closing Party, which will feature the Cypriot DJ duo Aparapira Parape, alongside food, drinks, and family-friendly activities.
