The convicted suspect is currently serving time for a drug-related case and is being held in the same wing as an unconvicted detainee. This detainee’s cell was searched by police on Sunday night, indicating an ongoing investigation into potential connections among the inmates.
Prior to this arrest, four other suspects had already been detained. Among them is a 44-year-old former footballer, who is the owner of the motorcycle thought to have been used in the murder. Additionally, a 59-year-old and a 30-year-old from Nicosia, along with a 39-year-old resident of Limassol, have also been implicated.
The 39-year-old, of Greek origin, appears to play a critical role in the case, having been recorded by closed-circuit surveillance cameras at all three relevant scenes, including the days leading up to Demosthenous’s murder. The involvement of this suspect has led to heightened scrutiny of the people surrounding the victim.
Yesterday morning, the 59-year-old, the 30-year-old, and the 39-year-old were brought before the Limassol District Court under tight security and wearing bulletproof vests. Despite objections from the defence lawyers representing the 59-year-old and the 39-year-old, the court approved the police’s request for an eight-day detention period for these suspects.
