abducted child — abducted child — A Turkish national has abducted his two-year-old child from Limassol, crossing back to the occupied north after the incident. The abduction occurred early this morning in the village of Mandria, where the father illegally entered the area.

Abducted child: A Disturbing Turn of Events

According to reports, the father entered through a gap in the buffer zone, where an accomplice was waiting with a white rental car. The lawyer for the mother, Ioannis Michaelakis, recounted that after the abduction, the father allegedly attempted to drown the mother in her own swimming pool while the accomplice seized the child and fled.

Quick Response by Authorities

The mother, who was caught off guard by the sudden and violent attack, was unable to activate her police alert app immediately. However, she did manage to alert the authorities as soon as the suspects left the scene. Law enforcement mobilised quickly, and the Bicommunal Technical Committee on Crime has been notified of the incident.

A Disturbing History

The father, who is not a Turkish Cypriot, has a history of threatening the mother, according to her lawyer. Michaelakis stated that there are concerns regarding the father’s alleged involvement in drug-related activities. The mother, who moved to Cyprus last October, had reported previous incidents of domestic violence to the police.

Outstanding Warrant and Ongoing Investigation

An arrest warrant for the father has been outstanding since November 2025, following a domestic violence complaint related to previous incidents in the occupied north. The mother had been enrolled in the “Elpis” protection programme, which aims to assist victims of domestic abuse. Currently, she is at a police station aiding investigators from CID Limassol in identifying the second suspect.

A Glimmer of Hope

Despite the grim circumstances, the mother has been cooperating fully with the authorities, providing all available information to facilitate the investigation. Authorities are working diligently to locate the father and child, and the mother’s safety remains a top priority.
