Cyprus tourism: Impressive Growth Figures
According to Eurostat, the total number of guest nights spent in short-term rental accommodation across the EU reached a staggering 398.1 million between July and September 2025. This marks an increase of 8.7 per cent compared to the same quarter in 2024 and a robust 28.2 per cent rise compared to the third quarter of 2023. The month of July saw the most substantial growth, with short-term rental nights up by 10.0 per cent.
Cyprus Among EU’s Active Markets
In Cyprus, the statistics reveal that guests booked approximately 1.96 million nights in short-term rentals from April to June 2025. This places the island firmly among the most active short-term rental markets in the EU, indicating strong demand during the spring and early summer travel season.
Popular Destinations in the EU
While Cyprus enjoys a growing reputation for short-term rentals, larger regions continue to dominate. Andalucia in Spain emerged as the most popular destination with 13.3 million guest nights in the second quarter of 2025. It was closely followed by Jadranska Hrvatska in Croatia with 9.6 million nights and Île-de-France in France with 9.0 million nights. Eurostat’s data indicates that the leading tourist regions in the EU are concentrated in just five countries, with Spain and France being particularly prominent.
Tourism Revenue on the Rise
In addition to the growth in online rental bookings, Cyprus’ tourism revenue has also seen a notable increase. Data from the Cyprus Statistical Service revealed that tourism revenue reached €458.60 million in October 2025, reflecting a 12.4 per cent rise from €407.90 million in the same month the previous year. Over the first ten months of 2025, the total revenue rose by 15 per cent year on year, amounting to €3.43 billion.
Visitor Spending Trends
Despite the surge in overall earnings, the average spending per visitor showed a decline, with expenditure per person falling by 4 per cent to €852.80 in October. Visitors from the United Kingdom comprised 31.4 per cent of arrivals, with daily spending averaging €108.42. In comparison, Israeli tourists spent €132.12 daily, while German visitors averaged €111.79.
