Kalo chorio: Voices of Frustration
The demonstration, which lasted for two hours, was marked by the sounds of children’s voices and parents expressing their discontent. Protesters held placards with messages such as “Transparency and accountability now,” “We want a nursery school, not a construction site,” and “What happened to the money?”

Uneven Promises
The nursery school, which serves around 19 children from five nearby communities—Kalo Chorio, Louvaras, Zoopigi, Agios Pavlos, and Agios Konstantinos—was closed for renovations in the summer of 2023, with assurances that the works would be completed by September of that year. However, two and a half years later, the children are still temporarily accommodated in a room at the local Primary School, a situation described by parents as “less than ideal.”
Calls for Accountability
The Movement of Ecologists has been vocal in demanding answers from the Ministry of Education and the Limassol School Board. “This is an unacceptable deception,” said a representative of the group, emphasising the need for immediate intervention and clear communication regarding the reopening timeline.
Ignored Appeals
Since July 2025, the group has sent multiple letters to various authorities, including the Ministry of Education and the Limassol District Administration, yet they report receiving no official responses. Andreas Mavrikios, president of the Limassol Provincial Committee of the Movement of Ecologists, highlighted that the case is now under examination by the Office of the Commissioner for Administration, with the Audit Office also asked to intervene.
Concerns About Funding
Mavrikios raised concerns regarding the €1.5 million allocated for the renovation of the nursery school, stressing the need for transparency. “Taxpayers’ money cannot disappear. We have every right to know where it went and to demand full accountability,” he asserted.
The Impact on Families
Parents have expressed that the prolonged closure has forced them to travel long distances to transport their children to alternative schools. “Parents and children in rural areas have the same right to safe and dignified educational infrastructure,” Mavrikios stated, underscoring the difficulties faced by families due to the lack of progress on the renovation.
