larnaca beachfront — Intensive policing of the Larnaca beachfront will persist, aimed at preventing thefts and enhancing the sense of security for both residents and visitors. Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis made this announcement during a recent meeting with the Larnaca chamber of commerce and industry (Evel) and the Larnaca district’s tourism development company (Etap).
Hartsiotis noted that recent operations and targeted measures have already led to a reduction in crime in the area. He stated that the continued efforts are designed to further bolster the safety perceptions of everyone who frequents the beachfront.
Larnaca beachfront: Enhancing Local Policing
During the meeting, the necessity of upgrading Larnaca’s police department was discussed. Hartsiotis confirmed that a complete overhaul of the town’s fire station is already slated for next year’s budget, reflecting a broader commitment to improving public safety infrastructure.
Addressing Broader Security Concerns
Participants also focused on the need for stricter policing of illegal fishing in marine protected areas, as well as other pressing issues such as smuggling, illegal immigration, and poaching along the Green Line. Longstanding crime challenges in specific areas, like Pyla, were noted, highlighting the multifaceted nature of security concerns in the region.
Proposed Municipal Police Initiative
Hartsiotis introduced the idea of establishing a municipal police force in Larnaca, which would operate under the jurisdiction of the town’s municipality. This new entity would alleviate some responsibilities from the central police, particularly regarding minor infractions like noise pollution and illegal parking.
“We remain committed to cooperating with all competent bodies to enhance security, law and order, and the quality of life in the town and the district of Larnaca,” Hartsiotis affirmed, indicating a collaborative approach to addressing the various security issues facing the area.
