Speaking on Sunday, Michaelidou highlighted that the new school year is set to start dynamically, introducing significant innovations and programmes aimed at empowering students and supporting teachers. She emphasised that this investment marks a milestone in the government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure, underlining education as a fundamental priority.
47 million: New Academic Year Kicks Off
Primary school children will return to lessons on Monday, while senior students have already started their academic year on Friday. This timely reopening is complemented by the government’s push to modernise educational facilities across Cyprus.
Comfortable Learning Environments
A significant component of this year’s funding is dedicated to the installation of air conditioning units across schools. Currently, 45 per cent of schools in Cyprus have air conditioning fully operational, with the Famagusta area having completed its installation programme. This initiative aims to create comfortable learning conditions for all students.
Future Plans for Infrastructure
The air conditioning installation programme is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. By then, all schools are expected to benefit from these enhancements, fostering better learning environments throughout the island.
Staffing and Operational Readiness
Regarding staffing, Michaelidou reassured that all schools will operate without issues this year, indicating a well-prepared start to the academic calendar. The ministry is committed to ensuring that the modernisation of schools continues, with a focus on creating an effective and inclusive educational system.
“The achievement of our goals requires synergies with all those involved and we follow this path consistently,” Michaelidou stated, reaffirming her ministry’s dedication to improving educational standards across Cyprus.
