- Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, as such events raise concerns regarding pool safety and supervision in holiday settings.
The alarming event occurred on Wednesday, 20 August, just hours after the Israeli family arrived for their holiday. The mother, accompanied by her two children, had settled into their accommodation in Chlorakas when they decided to head to the pool while waiting for their room to be prepared.
Tragedy struck when, during a momentary lapse in supervision, the boy ventured into the deeper section of the pool. Witnesses reported that a swimmer discovered the unconscious child submerged at the bottom and promptly brought him to the surface.
Immediate attempts to revive him were made by a lifeguard and the boy’s mother, but despite their efforts, he remained unconscious. Emergency services quickly transported the child to Paphos Hospital, where doctors assessed his serious condition and determined that he required specialised care.
After being stabilised, he was transferred to Makarios Hospital in Nicosia, where medical staff placed him on life support due to the severity of his condition. His mother reported to police that the child had been playing in the shallow end under her watchful eye when the incident occurred.
