The investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) revealed that the father did not return directly home after finishing work that day. This detail has contributed to the decision to charge him with a more severe offence.

The court has set September 22 as the date when charges will be formally read to the father, with a plea expected to follow. If he pleads not guilty, the trial is scheduled to commence on September 30.

Xylophagou: Request to Attend Funeral

During the hearing, the father’s new legal representative, Christos Theodoulou, announced plans to submit a request for his client to attend the funeral of his sons. The judge will decide on this matter by July 30. Currently, the boys’ bodies have not yet been transferred to Bulgaria.

The Circumstances of the Tragedy

Reports indicate that the two brothers were left unattended after the father departed for work in Limassol at 4:30am. Shortly thereafter, their 38-year-old stepmother also left for her job. Following the tragic discovery of the children by their stepmother, who returned after 5:30pm, the father was taken into custody for questioning.

CCTV footage from the apartment building recorded the boys playing in the yard at around 12:10pm. They were seen entering the car approximately two hours later. It was later determined that they had gained access to the vehicle through an unlocked back door, which may have remained open before they became trapped inside.

Details of the Investigation

According to sources close to the investigation, an expert examination revealed damage to the open door, suggesting that it had been left unlocked despite the car being secured. Tragically, the child safety lock was activated, preventing them from escaping.

The case has garnered significant media attention in both Bulgaria and Britain, highlighting the tragic circumstances surrounding the deaths of the two young boys.
