- police chase — A 34-year-old man was arrested after allegedly leading police on a chase through the Paphos district late on Wednesday night.
Police initiated the pursuit shortly after midnight during a routine patrol. Officers signalled for the driver to stop, but instead of complying, he accelerated and fled the scene. This initiated a chase that would soon take a dangerous turn.
As the pursuit continued, the driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a crash that sent him careening into the yard of a nearby house. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident.
Upon apprehension, the man faced multiple charges, including dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and operating a vehicle without a valid licence or insurance. A breathalyser test conducted on the scene revealed an alcohol reading of 76 micrograms, significantly above the legal limit of 22 micrograms.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and the dangers of driving under the influence. Authorities are reminding drivers of the importance of adhering to traffic laws and the serious consequences of reckless behaviour.
