summer fun — Summer fun for young museum explorers is on the horizon as the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia and the AG Leventis Gallery prepare a vibrant programme for children aged six to twelve. With just over a month until schools break for the summer, parents can look forward to an enriching experience that combines creativity and cultural learning.

Summer fun: A Journey Through Art and History

The programme, running from June 22 to July 3, will take young participants on a two-week adventure starting at the AG Leventis Gallery’s temporary exhibition, Christoforos Savva: Simple – Complex – Invisible: An Unknown Archive. This exhibition celebrates the work of the renowned Cypriot artist alongside the permanent collections of the Leventis Municipal Museum. Children will explore art and historical documents, gaining insight into the history of Cyprus and Nicosia in an engaging manner.

Uncovering Stories and Traditions

Through interactive sessions, children will uncover stories of people and places, bringing to life the rich traditions of Nicosia. Drawing inspiration from Savva’s work, participants will be encouraged to use their imagination, transforming history into a medium for play and creativity. This unique approach aims to inspire a love for both art and history among the young explorers.

Hands-On Learning with Experienced Guides

The sessions will be facilitated by museum educators Mariel Kouveli and Theodora Demetriou, who will lead a team of skilled collaborators. Together, they will guide the children through various activities, including theatre, creative movement, nature-based exercises, and visual arts. This experiential learning model ensures that participants not only learn about art and history but also engage with it in a hands-on manner.

Programme Details and Registration

Running daily from 8 am to 2:30 pm, the summer programme will be conducted in Greek, providing an immersive experience for local children. The total cost for the two weeks is €300. Parents interested in enrolling their children can reach out via telephone at 22-661475 or email [email protected].

As the organisers state, “We look forward to welcoming you to incredible museum experiences, where the history of Nicosia meets Cypriot and European art – with play, joy and plenty of inspiration.”
