windy — New Year’s Day 2026 will be windy, as instability subsides from the previous evening’s storms, according to the Department of Meteorology. Meteorological Officer Panagiotis Linggis indicated that the storms will persist until New Year’s Eve evening, primarily affecting western-northern regions. By morning, they are expected to be largely confined to mountainous areas and potentially the occupied territories.

Linggis warned that a colder air mass will bring strong wind gusts, especially in the western northern areas and windward regions of the northwestern coast. While rain is not expected to be the defining characteristic of New Year’s Day, the winds could create some challenges for residents.

As temperatures are set to drop further on Friday, they are anticipated to rise again by Sunday, offering a brief respite from the chill. Following the stormy weather, Linggis noted that no additional rainfall is expected until Sunday, marking the end of the wet conditions that have lingered through New Year’s Eve.

Looking ahead to Friday, Linggis reassured that winds will calm significantly, particularly in the afternoon. However, by Saturday and Sunday, Levantes, or easterly winds, will pick up, and while clouds may form on Saturday afternoon, the weather will generally remain clear without rain.

The current weather forecast stems from a low-pressure system coupled with a strengthened wind field that is temporarily affecting the region. As residents prepare for the New Year, they are advised to stay vigilant against the potential impacts of the winds.
