The first accident occurred around 1pm on Gregoris Afxentiou Street in Ayia Varvara. A car carrying an elderly woman as a passenger collided head-on with another vehicle under circumstances that are currently being investigated. The woman, identified as Andriana Lefteeri, aged 80 and originally from England, sustained fatal injuries in the crash.
Approximately an hour and a half later, a second accident unfolded on the same road, this time in Pera Orinis. A 19-year-old driver struck an elderly man, Demetris Skoufari, 77, who was attempting to cross the road. The impact left Skoufari seriously injured, and he was promptly taken to Nicosia General Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Authorities are actively investigating both incidents to determine the factors that led to these unfortunate events. The community mourns the loss of two lives in such a short span, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding road safety, especially for vulnerable pedestrians and passengers.
