Demosthenous was fatally shot by assailants who ambushed his vehicle near his home in Sfalangiotissa while he was accompanied by his son. According to police sources, a van obstructed their path before a motorcycle rider opened fire on them.

In a desperate attempt to reach a hospital, Demosthenous’s son tried to drive him to safety but crashed on Tsirion Road at approximately 9am, leaving the vehicle stranded. Tragically, Demosthenous is believed to have succumbed to his injuries inside the car.

Authorities have since closed parts of the motorway to facilitate a thorough investigation into the murder. Police have advised motorists that the emergency lane is being heavily utilised, urging drivers to keep it clear for emergency vehicles.

In a related development, officers discovered a burnt van in Germasogeia, which they suspect was used by the assailants to flee the scene. Investigators are currently scouring CCTV footage from Sfalangiotissa and neighbouring areas to trace the movements of the perpetrators.
