The accident occurred early this morning, around 2:30 AM, when Aliki was travelling in a double cabin truck driven by a 22-year-old Greek-Cypriot. The vehicle was attempting to enter the motorway from a left speed lane when the driver lost control.

Witnesses reported that the truck veered off course, crashing violently into the protective motorway railing. The impact was severe, resulting in Aliki’s instant death as she sat in the back seat. Four other passengers, also Greek Cypriots from nearby communities, were in the vehicle at the time. Thankfully, they were rescued from the wreckage by the fire service and only sustained minor injuries.

Following the incident, the driver underwent a breathalyser test, which indicated positive results. However, he refused a final reading test and was subsequently arrested after receiving treatment at the emergency room.
This accident marks the third fatal incident on Cyprus roads in less than 24 hours. Earlier, a 28-year-old Ukrainian motorcyclist succumbed to injuries sustained in a previous crash, and a 66-year-old woman had also died after being struck by a vehicle weeks prior. These events underscore the urgent need for improved road safety measures in the region.
