As winter settles in, our desire for warm, hearty dishes intensifies, and there’s nothing quite like a traditional roast dinner to satisfy that craving. Following a friend’s recommendation, we decided to visit Hill View for their Sunday lunch on a particularly stormy day.

Sunday roast: Arriving at Hill View

Upon entering the restaurant, guests are greeted not only by the warm atmosphere but also by a stunning panoramic view of the bay framed by large picture windows. It’s advisable to request a table with a view when making a reservation, as the scenery adds a special touch to the dining experience.

Three-Course Sunday Carvery

The Sunday Carvery at Hill View offers a generous three-course meal for a reasonable price of €22.95. The meal begins with a choice of two soups, followed by an extensive salad buffet, and culminating in the main carvery selection. For those with a sweet tooth, desserts can be added for an extra €4.45.

Soup and Salad Bar

During our visit, the soup options were mushroom and cauliflower. We opted for one of each, and the soups arrived quickly, accompanied by a bowl of croutons and herby butter, alongside a basket of warm bread. Both soups were comforting and perfect for the chilly weather.

The salad bar was impressively stocked with a variety of dishes, including Greek salad, coleslaw, and even King prawns, which was a delightful surprise at this price point. The generous plate sizes were a notable feature, allowing diners to create a satisfying salad before the main course. Throughout our meal, we observed the staff diligently restocking the salad bar, ensuring freshness and variety.

The Carvery Selection

After a brief wait, we were second in line for the carvery, which allowed us to peruse the options available. The selection included beautifully cooked roast beef, pork in a pastry crust, lamb, and chicken, all presented with Yorkshire puddings, a variety of vegetables, and roast potatoes. Gravy and sauces, including horseradish and apple sauce, completed the ensemble.

I chose the roast beef, which turned out to be tender and generously portioned, while my dining partner opted for a mix of pork and beef. Both of us agreed that it would be challenging to improve upon this Sunday roast.

Irresistible Desserts

Despite feeling full, my partner couldn’t resist the dessert menu. Priced at €4.40, the desserts offered some of the best value in the Paphos region. The selection included homemade options such as crème brûlée, chocolate fudge cake, and apple crumble. My partner chose the apple crumble, served in a skillet with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Value for Money and Exceptional Service

In an era of rising prices, the Sunday lunch at Hill View represents excellent value for money, paired with attentive service and that stunning view. It’s worth noting that Hill View operates all year round, but making a reservation is essential, especially on Sundays when the restaurant tends to be fully booked. On other days, diners can enjoy an à la carte menu.
