  • Drivers faced perilous conditions on Cyprus highways as storms lashed the region, resulting in multiple accidents involving guardrails.

The first incident unfolded on the Nicosia–Larnaca highway near Athienou, where a vehicle lost control due to the treacherous weather. The car spun off the road, collided with the guardrail, and came to a halt, immobilising it on the scene.

Shortly after this incident, another driver encountered similar difficulties on the Limassol–Nicosia highway near the Ayia Varvara exit. In a matching scenario, the second vehicle also struck the safety barriers, highlighting the hazardous driving conditions.

Despite the severity of the crashes, authorities confirmed that no serious injuries were reported in either case. Both vehicles were rendered inoperable but were subsequently cleared from the roads by police, allowing traffic to resume smoothly.

Traffic officials are now urging motorists to approach travel with extreme caution as heavy rain continues to pose a significant risk across various sections of the island’s motorways. The adverse weather conditions are likely to persist, making safe driving practices more crucial than ever.
