Recent observations by the Geological Survey Department indicate that seismic activity in the Agia Marina Kelokedaron area is gradually weakening. The department has reported a decline in both the magnitude and frequency of earthquakes, suggesting a potential easing of the situation.

This seismic sequence began on the morning of Wednesday, 12 November 2025, approximately 20 kilometres northeast of Paphos. Within the first five hours, residents across Cyprus felt two significant earthquakes, measuring 5.2 and 5.3 on the Richter scale. The tremors were particularly noticeable in the Paphos, Limassol, and Nicosia districts, as well as along the eastern Mediterranean coast.
Following these initial quakes, the region experienced intense seismic activity, with over 200 recorded earthquakes within a short span of 48 hours. Among these, 16 tremors registered between 3.0 and 4.5 on the Richter scale, causing concern and prompting heightened awareness among residents.
Despite the recent decline in seismic activity, the Geological Survey Department cautions that the potential for new strong tremors remains, although the likelihood of such events decreases with time. The department continues to analyse data and provide updates through the Seismological Centre’s official channels.
