The Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) is set to transform its grant management system, with a new framework expected to be implemented by 2027. This initiative aims to streamline funding processes and enhance participation in research programmes.
On Thursday, the RIF announced the start of a consultation process that will lead to new rules for entities wishing to engage in its funding programmes. The foundation is actively seeking input from stakeholders and the public to shape these changes.
Grant management: Upcoming Changes to Funding Rules
The new grant management system will introduce significant modifications, including the implementation of lump sum payments and standard scales of unit cost for personnel. This is anticipated to simplify financial management for grant recipients and ensure greater transparency in the allocation of funds.
Expanded Participation Opportunities
Another notable aspect of the new rules is the allowance for affiliated entities to participate in funded projects. This change aims to broaden the scope of research activities and foster collaboration among various organisations.
Enhanced Oversight for Larger Projects
For projects receiving funding exceeding €150,000, a new role of project manager will be introduced. This measure is designed to provide rigorous oversight, ensuring that larger grants are managed effectively and meet the objectives set forth by the foundation.
Invitation for Public Feedback
The RIF encourages interested parties to submit their comments and suggestions regarding the draft participation rules. All feedback is to be provided through a dedicated online questionnaire, which must be completed by March 18, 2026, at 13:00.
Comments can be submitted in both Greek and English, allowing for broader engagement from diverse stakeholders. For those seeking further information, the Partner Support Centre is available to assist and provide additional details about the consultation process.
As the foundation works towards finalising the new rules, a draft of the participation guidelines and the consultation announcement have been made available for review. This transparency aims to ensure that all voices are heard in the shaping of the future grant management system.
