- eu council — President Nikos Christodoulides is in Zagreb, engaging with Croatian leaders as Cyprus prepares to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
On Tuesday, President Christodoulides met with Croatian President Zoran Milanovic and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic. Their discussions centred on strengthening bilateral relations and establishing priorities for Cyprus’s upcoming EU Presidency.
This visit is part of a broader consultation effort by Cyprus, where officials are meeting with various EU member states to solidify support and outline objectives for their term at the helm of the Council. The presidency rotates among EU countries every six months, involving responsibilities such as coordinating the Council’s work and representing it in relations with other EU institutions.
After his discussions in Zagreb, President Christodoulides is set to travel to Brussels for the European Council meeting. This summit will convene EU heads of state and government to deliberate on significant policy issues, including the economy, migration, and international relations.
