Pensioner remanded: Details of the Attack

The younger man reported that his home, which he rents from the older man, was broken into by an unknown assailant. According to police statements, the intruder assaulted him first with his fists and then with a sharp object, resulting in injuries that required hospitalisation.

Injuries and Medical Attention

After the attack, the 57-year-old was taken to Limassol general hospital where he was diagnosed with a fractured nose and other injuries. Medical professionals decided to keep him under observation due to the severity of his condition.

Witness Accounts and Previous Threats

The tenant’s partner provided crucial details to the police, revealing that they had heard loud noises and banging at their front door prior to the attack. When the 57-year-old opened the door, he was confronted by the unknown assailant, who reportedly threatened, ‘I will kill you and then I will leave.’

Furthermore, the couple noticed that chains and a lock had been added to their gate, heightening their fear and prompting the partner to contact the authorities.

Connection to the 79-Year-Old Landlord

The couple has been renting the property from the 79-year-old for the past two years. However, tensions escalated when the landlord requested that they vacate the premises to make room for his daughter. He initially agreed to give them four to five months to find alternative accommodation.

In early August, the landlord allegedly cut off the water and electricity supply to the rental property, which was perceived as an act of harassment.

Additional Threatening Behaviour

Last Friday, while the 57-year-old was alone, two men visited the house. One claimed to be the landlord’s nephew and physically threatened the tenant, stating that if they did not leave by the end of the month, they would face severe consequences. This incident was also reported to the police.

After his arrest, the 79-year-old denied any involvement in the incidents. His lawyer did not contest the remand order as the court proceedings began. The police are currently investigating multiple charges against the landlord, including conspiracy to commit a felony, injury, causing grievous bodily harm, and illegal entry.
