In his remarks, delivered by Deputy Permanent Secretary Elikkos Elia, Palmas highlighted the exercise as a testament to the training and professionalism of the National Guard of Cyprus.

Palmas emphasised that the military personnel demonstrated their reliability and capability as a deterrent against potential threats, reinforcing their role as the cornerstone of the nation’s defence. “The women and men of the force proved once more the reason for which the National Guard constitutes the most reliable and decisive deterrent against any threat, as well as the cornerstone for the defence of freedom, territorial integrity and sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus,” he stated.
In a world marked by geopolitical instability and rapid changes, Palmas acknowledged the challenges that affect security both regionally and internationally. He noted that Cyprus, being the closest EU member state in a strategically significant region, is positioned to act as a pillar of stability and cooperation.
Palmas assured that the Cypriot government is committed to fostering dialogue and mutual respect among regional peoples. He outlined the ongoing efforts to upgrade the National Guard’s capabilities and enhance the nation’s defence through various initiatives. These include utilising EU funding, forming strategic partnerships with allies, advancing the domestic defence industry, and modernising military infrastructure.
These actions are designed to bolster Cyprus’ defence while promoting trust and collaboration with international partners. Addressing the defence attaches present during the exercise, Palmas reiterated Cyprus’ role as a dependable contributor to regional peace and stability.
Lieutenant General Emmanuel Theodorou, Chief of Staff of the National Guard, remarked that the recent exercise showcased a fraction of the National Guard’s capabilities, affirming their readiness to meet modern battlefield demands. He expressed pride in the manoeuvres, which also served as a warm welcome for him as the newly appointed army chief.
The exercise featured an array of advanced weapon systems, including Akeron and Howitzer systems, grenade launchers, helicopters, and paratroopers displaying both the Greek and Cypriot flags. The final phase of the exercise was attended by representatives from the Greek Embassy in Cyprus, Members of Parliament, defence attaches, and officials from various state departments.
