Paralimni stabbing: A Troubled Past

The accused, who has a history of criminal behaviour, had recently been released from prison on 12 August, just four days prior to the attack. His previous offences include thefts and burglaries, raising concerns about public safety among local authorities.

Witnesses to the Attack

The stabbing occurred on Saturday evening at approximately 8:15pm, shocking diners who witnessed the violence unfold. Police arrived quickly at the scene to find the 18-year-old victim suffering from serious injuries. He was initially taken to Famagusta General Hospital, where doctors determined he had sustained a significant wound from a sharp object. Thankfully, he was later transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where his condition stabilised and was deemed out of danger.

Quick Arrest

About half an hour after the attack, police discovered the alleged perpetrator walking in his underwear in a nearby area. Initially arrested for causing a disturbance, he was later connected to the stabbing and charged with attempted murder. He appeared before the Famagusta District Court, which ordered his detention for eight days while investigations continue.

Municipality’s Call for Action

The Paralimni-Deryneia Municipality has expressed its alarm over the incident, labelling it an assault on the area’s reputation as a tourist destination. They highlighted the unsettling presence of individuals with troubled criminal backgrounds, urging the state to take responsibility for ensuring the safety of both citizens and visitors. In their announcement, they called for stricter enforcement of existing laws to prevent such occurrences.
