On the afternoon of October 30, authorities received reports around 2pm of a fire in the Kafkalia area of Ambeliou. Fire crews quickly mobilised, with four fire engines from the Fire Service and the Department of Forests dispatched to the scene.
The blaze, which consumed approximately 3 hectares of pine trees and wild vegetation, was extinguished before it could spread further. Investigations conducted at the site revealed that the fire originated from burning coals that the suspect had carelessly thrown into the field near properties he maintains.
Following the incident, the man was taken into custody and subsequently appeared before the Larnaca District Court. The court ordered his detention for two days as the investigation continues. According to police statements, he faces serious charges including abandoning an unextinguished fire, dumping burning coals, and causing a fire through reckless or negligent behaviour.
