Screentale Cyprus will film its mythology-inspired TV series My Aphrodite during next month’s Limassol Carnival, integrating action live within the vibrant parade. This marks a significant step for the multi-year international production that is now entering its filming phase.

My aphrodite: Pilot Episode Set Against Festive Backdrop

The pilot episode, titled Life is a Carnival, encapsulates years of development and preparation. Marija Savina, chief executive of Screentale Cyprus, expressed her excitement about the production, highlighting the collaborative efforts that have brought this project to life. While she refrained from revealing the name of the international film star set to feature in the series, she noted that the star will be filming simultaneously in Rio de Janeiro, further strengthening the international ties of the production.

Cultural Exchange Through Carnival

This production builds on cultural bridges that were established last year when Screentale Cyprus collaborated with the Limassol Municipality. They showcased Cyprus’s carnival culture in Rio de Janeiro and welcomed Rio’s Carnival King and Queen to Limassol. The Limassol Carnival song Life is a Carnival, which has inspired the pilot’s title, was also presented in 2025, reinforcing the cultural connections between the two cities.

A Rich Tapestry of Storytelling

Originally conceived as a novel, My Aphrodite has evolved into a television series inspired by the rich myths of Cyprus. The narrative begins in 1920s London, weaving through various eras and culminating in contemporary Cyprus. This blend of mythology, history, and modern life is intended to resonate with audiences both locally and internationally.

Significance for Cyprus’s Film Industry

This series represents a large-scale project for Cyprus, requiring extensive preparation and development. Savina noted that it is an opportunity to showcase the beauty and cultural heritage of Cyprus on international screens in a dynamic and engaging manner. The collaboration with international talents further emphasises the ambition of the project.

Upcoming Presentation at Limassol Municipality

Further details about the project are expected to be shared at a press conference hosted by the Limassol Municipality on Wednesday. This event will coincide with the carnival programme presentation, providing insights into what audiences can anticipate from the production.

As the Limassol Carnival approaches, excitement is building not only for the festive celebrations but also for the unique opportunity to witness the filming of My Aphrodite against the backdrop of one of Cyprus’s most beloved traditions.
