- Comedy nights are set to bring laughter across the divide in Nicosia, as the upcoming Peace Talks series aims to connect communities through humour.
Organised by Collective Beat, the performances are scheduled for December 29 at Rustem Book Store and December 30 at Yfantourgeio, both venues located in Nicosia. Each night features a blend of local and international comedians, showcasing their talent in English.
“United in laughter, divided in everything else,” is the sentiment expressed by the organisers, who believe that comedy can serve as a bridge between diverse communities. The events are designed to reflect the unique realities of life in Cyprus, making use of humour to address the challenges faced by both Greek and Turkish Cypriots.
The Peace Talks comedy nights aim to foster inclusivity by inviting a mix of performers. Attendees can expect to see both local talent and comedians from abroad, creating a rich tapestry of perspectives and experiences on stage. Organisers state, “Different backgrounds, different beliefs, same universal experience: plenty of trauma to turn it into comedy.”
With each performance, the comedians will tackle various themes, delivering laughs that resonate with the audience while also shedding light on the complexities of life in a divided city. The events promise to be an engaging escape, encouraging participants to leave their seriousness behind and embrace the lighter side of life.
Tickets are priced at €10, making the shows accessible to many. The combination of local and international acts aims to uplift spirits and provide a platform for laughter in a region often marked by division.
As they invite the community to join, the organisers encourage everyone to “bring your laugh, bring your silliness.” It’s a chance to share in the joy of comedy and prove that laughter really can unite people, even across divides.
