During routine checks, customs officers examined the passenger’s belongings and uncovered the high-value watch along with a clothing accessory. Such items typically require declaration and appropriate duties to be paid, which the man failed to do.

As a result of his oversight, customs officials imposed a fine of €3,901 for not declaring the goods. Additionally, he was charged nearly €20,000 in taxes and duties, totalling €19,012.84. This hefty sum reflects the strict regulations in place regarding the declaration of valuable items when entering Cyprus.

Officials emphasised the importance of declaring high-value goods to avoid significant fines and additional costs. The customs department’s vigilance in monitoring incoming passengers serves as a reminder for travellers to remain compliant with local laws regarding duty and tax obligations.
