A fire at a workers’ residence in Kalavasos has resulted in extensive damage to a corrugated iron structure that housed foreign workers. The incident occurred yesterday morning, prompting a swift response from local fire services.

At 8:11 a.m., the Fire Service received an alarm regarding a fire in a prefabricated structure located in a field near Kalavasos. Two fire engines from the Vasiliko fire station were dispatched to tackle the blaze.
Fortunately, no individuals were present inside the building when the fire broke out. The structure, constructed from polyurethane-coated corrugated iron, was primarily used as accommodation for foreign workers.
The fire inflicted significant damage on the building, including its furniture and equipment. Firefighters employed water hoses and breathing apparatus to extinguish the flames effectively. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with the Fire Service collaborating with the Police and the Electromechanical Services.
