Weekend: Art Exhibitions to Explore

The local art scene welcomes two new exhibitions this week. In Nicosia, painter Lara Sophie Benjamin is showcasing her latest works in an exhibition titled Trace Memories. This collection, displayed at Apocalypse Gallery until November 8, invites viewers to explore the invisible layers of a space through oil paintings on canvas. Benjamin’s work focuses on the sensations, feelings, and memories that a place holds, creating an engaging experience for all attendees.

Meanwhile, Limassol hosts the photography exhibition La Street c’est Chic by award-winning photographer Christina Drakos. Running from Friday through November 15 at Lumière Contemporary Art Gallery, this exhibition features captivating images from Drakos’s travels, highlighting the beauty of street life and human connection.

Theatrical Performances to Enjoy

This weekend, theatre enthusiasts can look forward to several performances. Nicosia’s Flea Theatre will stage two one-act plays by Susan Glaspell, Trifles and The People. This production, which runs from Friday through Monday, is particularly notable as it marks the first presentation of Glaspell’s work in Cyprus, showcasing female writers and their contributions to theatre.

On Friday evening, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will perform at Larnaca’s Municipal Theatre, featuring globally acclaimed Cypriot pianist Martino Tirimo and conductor Panayiotis Papadopoulos. Their concert, titled Premiere 2, will include masterpieces by Mozart, Čiurlionis, and Brahms, promising a delightful evening of orchestral music.

Unique Performances at the Larnaca Biennale

As part of the Larnaca Biennale 2025 programme, two performances stand out this weekend. The first is The Sighlence of Sky, a non-verbal mask and mime performance from Montreal, taking place at the Medieval Castle on Friday night. This moving piece explores themes of family bonds and experiences of disability and neurodiversity.

Additionally, the performance-walk Traces of Stass pays tribute to the influential Cypriot artist Stass Paraskos. Led by artists Emilios Koutsoftides and Simon Pruciak, this guided tour will take place on Friday and November 1 in Anaphotia village. Participants will follow in Paraskos’ footsteps while engaging with the landscapes and individuals that shaped his life and work. The experience will also be broadcast live at the Youth Makerspace in Larnaca, allowing audiences to join in real-time.

Festivals Bringing Communities Together

This weekend, the Pame Kaimakli Festival returns for its 11th edition, featuring performances by over 90 local and international artists. The festival will transform the streets and neighbourhoods of old Kaimakli into a vibrant hub of activity, activating unexpected urban sites like houses, shops, and rooftops. This community-driven event promises an eclectic mix of art, performance, and interaction.

In Limassol, the Art Explora Festival will be hosted aboard a museum-boat that docks at the Marina on Saturday. Visitors can look forward to a variety of free activities, installations, and experiences, with city-wide events, concerts, and photography exhibitions running until November 4.

Family-Friendly Halloween Celebrations

As Halloween approaches, families can take part in festive activities in Nicosia and Avgorou. The CVAR-Severis Foundation will host the Royal Halloween workshop on Saturday at 11am, designed for children. Meanwhile, the CyHerbia Halloween Family Festival will take place throughout the weekend, featuring a range of spooky games and crafts for all ages.
