On Saturday, Disy emphasised that the deal was centred around social policies rather than any political trade-offs. The party stated, “The agreement was on social policies and not on trade-offs, and was made without any connection to the presidential elections, which some were courting.” They further described the arrangement as one of “absolute transparency.”
Policy Goals Outlined
The pact includes three specific policy initiatives: the construction of 10,000 new houses, cash payouts to new mothers, and an increase in the minimum monthly pension. These objectives align with Disy’s existing goals and priorities that were shared before the recent elections.
Demetriou, in a social media video shared on Friday, stated that the policies were both feasible and necessary. “The construction of 10,000 new homes must happen in a short period, ideally within three or four years,” she asserted. Regarding financial assistance for mothers, Panayiotou suggested payments of €5,000 for the first child, €10,000 for the second, and €15,000 for every subsequent child.
Support for Pensioners Emphasised
Demetriou also highlighted the need to support pensioners, particularly those on low to medium incomes. She stated, “For those who contributed to the social insurance fund, €1,088 per month must be a right and we can succeed there.”

After the announcement, Panayiotou appeared on television to explain his endorsement of Demetriou. He emphasised that his party’s approach is not one of criticism from the sidelines, but rather one of collaboration. “For us, our philosophy is not to be throwing eggs and rocks at the wall from outside, like the opposition parties do,” he remarked. Panayiotou expressed a desire to work together to address societal problems now that his party has a presence in parliament.
