These foundational plans have informed the development of the new Equality and Accessibility Plan, which merges the objectives of both initiatives.

The updated plan is structured around five key pillars: fostering an organisational culture that embraces equality and inclusion; ensuring access and support for individuals with disabilities and special educational needs; providing equal support for career development; integrating gender considerations into funding, research, and teaching; and maintaining a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, discrimination, harassment, and gender-based violence.

Institutional Framework and Community Engagement

Crucial to the implementation of these policies is the institutionalised University Equality Committee, which operates at the Senate level, alongside the Diversity and Inclusion Office. This office plays a vital role in coordinating training and awareness initiatives across the university community.

Additionally, CUT is an active participant in the European University of Technology (EUt+) alliance, collaborating with eight other European universities through its Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Office. This partnership facilitates the exchange of best practices and the execution of joint actions, amplifying the impact of equality initiatives on a broader scale.

Shifts in Attitudes and Practices

In recent years, there has been a notable shift in attitudes within the university community. The promotion of inclusive language in official documents and daily communications has become standard practice. Furthermore, the university has committed to ongoing training and awareness efforts, ensuring that equality issues are foregrounded in its operations.
