Retail trade turnover in Cyprus increased significantly in March 2026, according to the latest report from the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat). This growth marks a continued upward trend within the retail sector, reflecting the resilience of consumer demand.
The Turnover Value Index of Retail Trade experienced a year-on-year rise of 7.8 per cent compared to March of the previous year. This increase indicates that consumers are spending more, which is a positive sign for the economy.
In addition, the Turnover Volume Index also saw an increase of 5.8 per cent on an annual basis. This figure suggests that the growth is not merely a reflection of rising prices but also indicates an increase in the quantity of goods sold.
Cystat’s report highlights that the Turnover Index specifically excludes sales of motor vehicles, concentrating solely on core retail activities. This focus provides a clearer picture of consumer behaviour within the broader retail landscape.
Notably, the Turnover Index is calculated using 2021 as the base year, establishing a benchmark for measuring shifts in retail performance. In this context, the average Turnover Index for that year is set at 100.0 units, allowing for straightforward comparisons with current figures.
The sustained growth in retail turnover underscores the robust nature of consumer demand across various sectors. As consumers continue to engage with the market, the outlook for retail trade in Cyprus remains optimistic.
