Cyprus continues to be a preferred destination for UK tourists, as highlighted by British High Commissioner Michael Tatham during a recent meeting with the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (Oev).

The meeting took place on Monday and involved Oev president George Pantelides, Oev director-general Michalis Antoniou, and head of trade and investment at the British High Commission in Cyprus, Elena Orphanidou. The discussions centred around enhancing economic and trade relations between Cyprus and the United Kingdom.
Both sides expressed a commitment to exploring new avenues for collaboration, with a particular focus on boosting trade flows and increasing investment. The aim is to foster closer cooperation between businesses in both nations.
Tourism: A Vital Sector
Tourism was a key topic of discussion, with both parties acknowledging the significance of the British market to the Cypriot economy. Tatham emphasised the importance of maintaining the positive trend in tourist arrivals from the UK.
“Cyprus remains at the lowest level of the United Kingdom’s travel advice, with no restrictions or recommendations against travel,” Tatham stated. He also noted that “British citizens continue to choose Cyprus with confidence,” which underscores the island’s status as a safe and reliable tourist destination.
Traffic and Demand from the UK
Data from Hermes Airports illustrated the robust demand, with approximately 30 inbound flights from the United Kingdom recorded daily. These flights are operating with load factors exceeding 90 per cent, reflecting sustained interest from British travellers.
The high volume of flights indicates not only the popularity of Cyprus as a holiday destination but also the resilience of the tourism sector amid global challenges. The meeting participants highlighted the necessity to build on this momentum to ensure continued growth.
