cyprus mountaineering — The Cyprus Mountaineering, Climbing and Orienteering Federation has filed a complaint against the Cyprus Sports Organisation (CSO), alleging a pattern of unfair treatment and warning of potential legal action if their grievances are not addressed.
- Furthermore, the federation has firmly rejected claims from the CSO that it is under investigation for financial irregularities, asserting that such allegations are unfounded.
In a letter from their legal representative dated March 6, the federation accused the CSO of “systematically undermining” its operations, suggesting that the issues may stem from personal differences within the sports community.
The federation claims that its finances and overall competitiveness have suffered due to the CSO’s actions. They allege that the CSO has withheld approved funding for the years 2023, 2024, and 2025, which is critical for maintaining their activities and growth.
In addition to the funding issues, the federation has pointed out that requests for the development of new disciplines, including ski mountaineering, have been ignored. They also expressed frustration over the CSO’s lack of timely responses to correspondence and its failure to support initiatives aimed at hosting international events in Cyprus.
A particular point of contention is the CSO’s rejection of a proposal for a climbing wall at Terra Santa College. The federation described the projected cost of the project as relatively low, making the rejection seem even more perplexing.
Furthermore, the federation has firmly rejected claims from the CSO that it is under investigation for financial irregularities, asserting that such allegations are unfounded.
In light of these ongoing issues, the federation is demanding the immediate release of the previously approved funds, a restoration of proper financial management and communication, and approval for the climbing wall project to move forward.
