  • Police are investigating the circumstances under which a 53-year-old Norwegian tourist was seriously injured in Ayia Napa and remains in critical condition in hospital.

The man is currently receiving treatment at Nicosia General Hospital, where he is intubated due to the severity of his injuries. Authorities are probing whether the incident was an accident or if other factors may have contributed to his condition.

Emergency services were alerted just before 7am, with Famagusta General Hospital reporting that an injured individual had been admitted earlier that morning. The tourist was found injured on Eleftherias Street, a popular area in Ayia Napa, known for its vibrant nightlife and tourist attractions.

Upon his initial examination, medical staff identified a skull fracture and a brain haemorrhage, prompting an urgent transfer to the more equipped Nicosia General Hospital for specialised care. The critical nature of his injuries has raised concerns amongst authorities as they work to ascertain the events leading up to the injury.

The Famagusta Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is actively examining the case, gathering evidence and speaking with potential witnesses. The investigation aims to clarify the situation surrounding the incident and ensure that any necessary actions are taken based on the findings.
