Innovation: Building a Collaborative Framework

The agreement establishes a framework for a collaborative relationship that will involve a range of initiatives designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Key activities include student internship programmes, industry-led lectures, workshops, and research projects.

Enhancing Educational Opportunities

AUB Mediterraneo, operating in Paphos as a twin campus of the American University of Beirut, believes this partnership is integral to preparing the next generation of professionals in critical fields such as technology, engineering, business, and digital transformation.

Rector Wassim El Hajj expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating it would provide valuable opportunities for experiential learning and professional development. He emphasised the importance of giving students direct exposure to the needs and expectations of the labour market.

Cyta’s Role in Digital Transformation

For Cyta, the agreement aligns with its ongoing commitment to driving digital transformation across Cyprus. The telecommunications organisation is currently involved in several initiatives, including the rollout of an island-wide fibre-optic network and upgrades to its mobile infrastructure.

CEO George Metzakis highlighted the potential for knowledge exchange between Cyta and AUB Mediterraneo, noting that the partnership would not only contribute to applied research but also help cultivate the skills necessary for the long-term competitiveness of Cyprus.

A Vision for the Future

The MoU is part of AUB Mediterraneo’s broader strategy to foster stronger ties within Cyprus’ innovation and research ecosystem. As the university continues to expand its partnerships, it aims to serve as a vital link between higher education, research, and the professional community.

Through this collaboration, both AUB Mediterraneo and Cyta are poised to make significant contributions to shaping Cyprus’ digital future, ensuring that students are well-prepared to meet the challenges of an evolving job market.
