AUB Mediterraneo has made history by becoming the first business school in Cyprus to earn EQUIS accreditation, a prestigious recognition that underscores its commitment to excellence in business education.
This remarkable achievement reflects not only the quality of AUB Mediterraneo’s Faculty of Business but also aligns with the broader mission of the American University of Beirut (AUB). The EQUIS (EFMD Quality Improvement System) accreditation, awarded by EFMD, places AUB Mediterraneo among an elite group of institutions worldwide that meet rigorous international standards for business and management education.
Dr Alain Daou, Dean of the Faculty of Business at AUB Mediterraneo, expressed his pride in this milestone. He emphasised that the accreditation signifies a strong connection to a globally recognised European standard of excellence. “For our students, faculty, and partners, this recognition affirms our commitment to preparing graduates not only with robust business knowledge but also with the critical thinking and adaptability necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing global market,” he stated.
The journey to EQUIS accreditation involves a thorough peer-review process that assesses various facets of a business school, including governance, academic programmes, faculty quality, research initiatives, and student engagement. With less than 2 per cent of business schools achieving this accreditation globally, AUB Mediterraneo’s accomplishment is particularly noteworthy.
As a twin campus of the American University of Beirut, located in Paphos, AUB Mediterraneo aims to bridge US and European standards in higher education. The institution has also secured AACSB accreditation, further solidifying its reputation within the global framework of educational excellence.
Dr Wassim El Hajj, Rector of AUB Mediterraneo, highlighted the significance of this achievement for Cyprus’s higher education landscape. He pointed out that this recognition not only enhances the university’s academic vision but also positions Cyprus as an emerging regional hub for internationally recognised higher education. “This milestone strengthens our commitment to providing students with a globally relevant educational experience rooted in academic excellence, innovation, and social impact,” he noted.
The implications of EQUIS accreditation extend beyond institutional recognition. It enhances AUB Mediterraneo’s international visibility, paving the way for deeper academic and corporate partnerships. Employers and partners can now have greater confidence in the quality of graduates from AUB Mediterraneo’s business programmes, knowing they meet globally recognised standards.
AUB Mediterraneo is dedicated to delivering high-quality business education that prepares students for the complexities of the global business environment. The accredited Faculty of Business fosters an international, interdisciplinary, and future-oriented learning atmosphere, ensuring students are equipped to face the challenges ahead.
With the backing of the New York State Education Department and the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education, AUB Mediterraneo is well positioned to influence the academic landscape across the Mediterranean and beyond. This recognition is not just a badge of honour; it is a testament to the institution’s ongoing commitment to quality and improvement in business education.
As AUB Mediterraneo continues to thrive, it remains focused on its mission to provide an educational experience that is not only academically rigorous but also socially responsible. This achievement is a significant step forward in its journey to shape future leaders who are prepared to make a meaningful impact in the world.
