Artificial intelligence was the focal point of a recent event hosted by PwC Cyprus, which gathered business and academic leaders in Nicosia to discuss collaboration and innovation. The event, titled ‘Driving Innovation and Growth’, took place on Wednesday, January 14, at the PwC Experience Center and was part of the Cyprus–India AI Impact Pre-Summit.

Artificial intelligence: Gathering of Leaders
Under the auspices of the High Commission of India in Nicosia, this significant event attracted over 100 participants from various sectors, including public, business, and academia. The agenda was centred around how artificial intelligence can transform industries, stimulate growth, foster innovation, and strengthen bilateral collaboration.
Opening Remarks Highlight AI’s Potential
The summit commenced with remarks from notable figures including Philippos Soseilos, CEO and Chairman of PwC Cyprus; Manish, the High Commissioner of India; and Demetris Skourides, Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology in Cyprus. Soseilos expressed his gratitude to High Commissioner Manish for the support and emphasised PwC Cyprus’s view of AI as a transformative force for sustainable growth and enhanced human potential.
Collaboration for Economic Growth
In his speech, Soseilos stated, “Together, we can leverage AI’s potential to drive economic growth, enhance efficiency, and create new opportunities” across various sectors such as Banking and Finance, Shipping, Retail, and Manufacturing. He reinforced PwC’s commitment to an AI-driven future that adheres to ethical principles and regulatory standards.
India’s Vision for AI
High Commissioner Manish welcomed the participants and underscored the transformative role of AI in shaping global economies. “India is leveraging AI to accelerate innovation, enhance productivity, and strengthen governance, while ensuring ethical deployment and inclusivity,” he stated.
Manish also emphasised India’s dedication to international collaboration, inviting Cypriot institutions, businesses, and startups to engage in joint AI ventures, knowledge exchanges, and innovation partnerships.
AI-First Strategy for Cyprus
Demetris Skourides discussed the importance of adopting an AI-first strategy to boost Cyprus’s economic growth. He highlighted the need for businesses to harness AI solutions to improve productivity and efficiency across various sectors.
Insights into Future AI Developments
The event featured a keynote presentation by Subhash Jangla, First Secretary at the High Commission of India, who shared insights into the upcoming India AI Impact Summit 2026 and India’s national strategy for AI-led development.
Engaging Panel Discussions
Two high-level panel discussions followed, fostering engaging dialogue on AI’s practical applications and strategic potential. The first panel, ‘AI’s Role in Shaping Tomorrow’s Business Landscape’, showcased senior executives from Island Oil, Bank of Cyprus, Alpha Bank Cyprus, and Eurobank Limited, who discussed the opportunities and challenges associated with AI adoption. The discussion was moderated by Chrysilios Pelekanos, partner at PwC Cyprus and president of the Cyprus–India Business Association.
In parallel, the second panel titled ‘Shaping Cyprus as a Global AI Hub through Academic Synergies’ examined how collaboration between academic institutions and industry can spur innovation. Esteemed speakers included faculty from the University of Nicosia Medical School, the American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo, and Neapolis University Paphos. This session was coordinated by Alakh Verma, Strategic Advisor on AI and Digital Transformation at PwC Cyprus.
Building Bridges for Future Collaborations
As the event concluded, Andreas Yiasemides, Clients and Markets Leader and CEO-elect of PwC Cyprus, emphasised the significance of the AI Global Impact Pre-Summit in fostering connections between Cyprus and India. He stated, “The event paves the way for the Global Summit in New Delhi and stronger collaboration between the two regions.”
Yiasemides reiterated PwC’s commitment to supporting responsible AI adoption that fosters trust, transparency, and sustainable growth across sectors, aiming to drive innovation for inclusive and lasting impact.

The event wrapped up with a networking session where attendees from various sectors engaged in discussions about potential partnerships and follow-up initiatives leading up to the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
