  • Air Astana has launched its inaugural direct flight from Astana to Larnaca Airport, establishing a new travel route between Kazakhstan and Cyprus.

The new service commenced on Wednesday, with flights scheduled to operate twice weekly, specifically every Tuesday and Saturday. Additionally, starting June 4, the airline will introduce direct flights from Almaty to Larnaca, which will run every Thursday and Sunday.

Direct flights: Flight Details and Schedule

Both routes will be serviced by the Airbus A321LR aircraft, enabling efficient travel for passengers. The flight duration from Astana to Larnaca is approximately five hours and 40 minutes, while the Almaty service will take around six hours and five minutes. These new routes are set to continue at least until September, providing ample opportunity for travellers.

A Historic Visit

The inaugural flight was particularly noteworthy as it carried President Nikos Christodoulides and his government officials, making it the first official visit by a Cypriot president to Kazakhstan. This visit is significant, given Kazakhstan’s status as the world’s ninth-largest country by land area, as highlighted by Hermes Airports.

Welcoming Passengers

Upon arrival, passengers on the inaugural flight were warmly greeted by Hermes Airports staff. They were presented with gift boxes containing local Cypriot products and souvenirs, enhancing the welcoming experience.

Positive Outlook for Bilateral Relations

Maria Kouroupi, Director of Aviation Development, Marketing and Communication at Hermes Airports, expressed optimism regarding the new connections. “Establishing direct links with two major cities in Kazakhstan marks another important step in our ongoing efforts to enhance the country’s air connectivity and creates new opportunities for tourism and bilateral relations between our two countries,” she stated. Her comments reflect the potential benefits that this new route could bring to both nations.
