foreign service — Investigations into the terrorism case involving two individuals arrested in Cyprus have revealed no evidence of a foreign service link. Police spokesman Vyron Vyronas confirmed on Friday that authorities are looking into the matter but have yet to find indications that the suspects were acting on behalf of foreign intelligence services.
Vyronas stated, “We do not have such indications at this stage, but all aspects are being investigated.” As the situation evolves, there are ongoing efforts to uncover whether the suspects received external assistance or had local associates. However, the information available to authorities currently remains limited.
The two suspects were arrested after allegedly monitoring and photographing sites of foreign interest across Cyprus, specifically in Limassol, Larnaca, and Paphos. Local media originally reported that the individuals were of Russian descent, but police clarified that they are actually of Azerbaijani origin.
Following their arrest, the suspects were presented before a district court, where a five-day detention order was issued. Vyronas mentioned that police might seek an extension of this order as investigations continue. “The case remains under investigation,” he added, emphasising that cooperation with various competent services is ongoing.
