On Tuesday, Cyprus’ road transport department (TOM) appealed to all importers and sellers who might have distributed dangerous airbags of Chinese origin on the island. The department emphasized the need for these entities to inform TOM about any potentially affected products.
Airbag warning: Dangerous Airbags Linked to Serious Incidents
According to the transport ministry, ten accidents have been reported in the United States involving replacement airbags that ruptured violently, leading to fatalities and severe injuries. This alarming trend has prompted swift action from both US and Cypriot authorities.
Call to Action for Consumers
TOM has also urged consumers who may have had their airbags replaced with these specific Chinese models to inform their mechanics, auto technicians, or sellers. The airbags in question were manufactured by Jilin Province Detiannuo Automobile Safety System Co (DTN), raising concerns over their safety standards.
Current Status in Cyprus
As of now, TOM has stated that there is no evidence suggesting that these faulty airbags have been installed in vehicles across Cyprus. However, in an effort to ensure public safety, the department is being proactive in spreading awareness about the potential dangers.
How to Report and Seek Assistance
Consumers who have concerns about their vehicle airbags can reach out to TOM for further information. The department can be contacted by calling 22600500 or emailing [email protected]. It is crucial for car owners to stay informed and vigilant regarding their vehicle safety.
