The trial of a 55-year-old man accused of attempted murder in the village of Amargeti begins on Tuesday before the Paphos criminal court. The defendant has pleaded not guilty to all charges, despite previously entering a guilty plea in earlier proceedings.

He is charged with attempting to kill a 41-year-old man from Limassol with a firearm on July 5, 2025. In addition to the attempted murder charge, the man faces allegations of illegally transporting a firearm, possessing a weapon during the closed hunting season, and carrying a firearm without the necessary police authorisation.

According to police reports, the suspect is a permanent resident of Amargeti and owns property adjacent to that of the victim. Authorities suggest that the two men had ongoing disputes over plot boundaries, which may have contributed to the incident.

On the day of the shooting, police were alerted after receiving reports of an injured individual found on the main road of Amargeti. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the 41-year-old man suffering from an abdominal wound consistent with a shotgun blast.

The victim was initially taken to Paphos general hospital and later transferred to Nicosia general hospital for further treatment in the intensive care unit. The case continues to unfold as the Paphos criminal court hears testimonies and examines evidence related to the charges.
