florin gheorghiu — The identity of the individual who posed as Romanian chess player Florin Gheorghiu in a manipulated video has been revealed. This figure, with an Eastern European accent, was involved in discussions with several key individuals including Giorgos Lakkotrypis and Charalambos Charalambous.

  • The implications of these interactions continue to unfold, as authorities investigate the origins of the video and the true intentions behind the meetings.

The recent disclosures, reported by Phileleftheros, indicate that this unnamed individual had a two-hour meeting with Cyfield Director George Chrysochos in London. The meeting, which occurred under the pretext of discussing investment opportunities, has raised significant concerns about the authenticity of the interactions.

Journalist Tasos Telloglou first brought attention to the identity of the individual during a news segment on ANT1 Greece. The person, representing the investment firm Stratix Wealth, chose to adopt the name of an 81-year-old Romanian chess player in a bid to lend credibility to his dealings.

In early December, the self-identified Gheorghiu communicated via videoconference with Charalambos Charalambous and Lakkotrypis. Reports suggest that this conversation lasted approximately 45 minutes, with Charalambous using a connection from the Presidential Palace, potentially an official email address.

Details about the controversial video, which surfaced on an account named “Emily Thompson” on the X platform, further complicate the narrative. The video features edited snippets from conversations involving Lakkotrypis, Charalambous, and Chrysochos, attempting to suggest that the Christodoulides team engaged in illicit financial practices during the election campaign.

Lakkotrypis has since filed a complaint with the Nicosia CID, asserting that his words were manipulated to create a misleading impression. The President’s office has labelled the video as part of a hybrid war, claiming it is a product of disinformation, potentially originating from Russian sources.

The series of events began when Lakkotrypis was approached by individuals claiming to represent Stratix Wealth, who expressed interest in a €150 million investment in the energy sector. Lakkotrypis, who has held the position of Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, was involved with the company for two years. The same group also met with Chrysochos regarding Cyfield’s private power generation project, further entwining these discussions in a web of intrigue.

The implications of these interactions continue to unfold, as authorities investigate the origins of the video and the true intentions behind the meetings.
