Cyprus’ Industrial Turnover Index rose in October 2025, reflecting robust growth across various industrial sectors and a notable boost in manufacturing and export activities. According to the state statistical service, Cystat, the index reached 148.1 units in October, with 2021 serving as the base year set at 100 units. This marks an annual increase of 6.9 per cent compared to October 2024.
From January to October 2025, the Industrial Turnover Index increased by 4.6 per cent in comparison to the same period last year, showcasing consistent upward momentum in the industrial landscape.
Industrial turnover: Manufacturing Sector Drives Growth
The manufacturing sector emerged as a key contributor to this overall growth, with the index rising to 150.3 units in October—a 9.5 per cent increase year on year. This reinforces the sector’s pivotal role in enhancing industrial turnover.
Notably, the manufacture of food products, beverages, and tobacco experienced growth, reaching 137.0 units, an annual rise of 4.2 per cent. Meanwhile, the manufacture of wood and products of wood and cork, excluding furniture, soared to 163.5 units, reflecting a remarkable annual growth of 18.5 per cent.
Sector Variances Highlight Mixed Trends
While many sectors thrived, there were notable declines as well. The electricity supply sector saw a downturn, with turnover decreasing by 5.8 per cent compared to October 2024, leading to an index of 134.1 units. In contrast, water supply and materials recovery recorded a positive annual change, increasing by 8.4 per cent.
The mining and quarrying sector also showed strength, with an index of 178.4 units and a turnover increase of 10.9 per cent from January to October 2025 compared to the previous year.
Key Manufacturing Highlights
- The manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products recorded the strongest annual increase, with an index of 187.2 units, rising by 23.7 per cent.
- Electronic and optical products and electrical equipment saw a sharp annual increase of 36.5 per cent, reaching an index of 120.3 units.
- Turnover in the manufacture of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles, and other transport equipment increased by 19.5 per cent, reaching 162.0 units.
However, not all sub-sectors fared as well. The manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, and leather products declined slightly to 120.3 units, with a turnover decrease of 0.7 per cent year on year.
Local and Export Markets Flourish
The local market also thrived, with turnover rising to 152.3 units, reflecting an annual growth of 6.1 per cent. In the export market, the index reached 125.9 units, showcasing a more robust annual increase of 11.2 per cent.
According to Cystat, the Industrial Turnover Index measures monthly changes in turnover across various sectors, including mining and quarrying, manufacturing, electricity supply, water supply, and materials recovery. The index is crucial for understanding the dynamics of Cyprus’ industrial economy.
Data for this index are collected through telephone enquiries, e-mail surveys, and administrative sources, focusing on enterprises with a turnover of at least €2,000,000 or 20 or more employees, along with a sample of smaller firms.
