- Shots were fired during a dramatic chase for a stolen car in Agia Napa early this morning, highlighting the dangers law enforcement faces in the line of duty.
At approximately 1:30 am, officers on patrol identified a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Upon signalling the driver to pull over for inspection, the situation escalated as the driver chose to ignore the police command and accelerated away in an attempt to evade capture.
The chase took a perilous turn when the suspect collided with two police patrol cars while trying to escape. In a bid to stop the fleeing vehicle, officers fired warning shots, showcasing the urgent measures taken to bring the situation under control.
The pursuit led the driver onto the Larnaca–Agia Napa motorway, where they recklessly entered the wrong lane of traffic. The dangerous manoeuvre continued until the vehicle exited the motorway, only to crash into a third police vehicle, further complicating the chase.
Ultimately, the driver abandoned the stolen car on a dirt track located in an area controlled by the British Bases. From there, the suspect fled on foot, disappearing into an unknown direction, leaving the police to assess the aftermath of the chase.
The three police vehicles involved sustained only minor damage, a fortunate outcome given the high-speed nature of the chase and the collisions that occurred. Currently, the Agia Napa Police Station, alongside the Famagusta CID, is actively investigating the incident to identify the driver and understand the full circumstances surrounding the case.
